Original Medicare

• Original Medicare includes Part A and Part B, and it’s A fee-for-service health insurance program (it does not include Medicare part C).

• To get prescription drug coverage (also known as Medicare Part D).  You can join a Medicare drug plan for a monthly premium.

• With Original Medicare, you can use any doctor or hospital anywhere in the U.S. that accepts Medicare insurance.

• There is an out-of-pocket cost with Original Medicare (average is 20% coinsurance).  To help pay your out-of-pocket cost, you can buy supplemental coverage, like Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap), or have coverage from your last employer or union, or Medicaid.
