New to Medicare?

 Tell me about Medicare.

  • Medicare is a federal health insurance program.

  • Medicare is for people 65 or older

  •  Certain younger people with disabilities; or

  • People with End-Stage Renal Disease (permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis or a transplant). It’s also known as ESRD (acronym).

Medicare offers two options for health care coverage:

  • Original Medicare - Non-HMO

  • Medicare Advantage – HMO (Offers additional benefits)

There are four parts to Medicare.  Each has its own benefit.

  • Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance)

  • Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance, e.g., Dr. visits)

  • Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage), an alternative to original Medicare.

  • Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Coverage)

You’re first eligible to sign up for Medicare 3 months before you turn 65.  You may be eligible to apply for Medicare earlier if you have a disability.
